5 Crane Facts
We’ve all seen them, whether you’re driving through the city and there’s a new skyscraper on the rise or your neighbours getting their new pool installed, cranes are everywhere but somehow go unnoticed…
Take a quick read to up your crane knowledge, you never know when a crane fun fact could come in handy!

Starting with number 5..
The first crane created by humans was built by the Ancient Greeks, more than 2,500 years ago. Although it was powered by humans and animals, those primitive cranes are the reason why we have fascinating historical landmarks today, like the Parthenon.

This one hit close to home for us! The first mobile crane was made in the 1950’s thanks to the technology of strong steel manufacturing, which created a need for reliable and sturdy trucks that could carry mobile cranes.

Following the rise of technological advancements and adaptations, it was added to cranes, eliminating the need for humans and animals to manually power cranes!

Many decades after the first crane was created, the “jib” was added, which powered them and also allowed for horizontal movement when it had only been vertical initially. This allowed it to be used easily in harbours for unloading cargo from ships.
