Star Casino On Track To Reopen In 2022

With four new hotels housing over 3,500 new rooms, the Star Casino is on track to reopen in 2022 and wow visitors and locals alike on the Gold Coast.
Despite popular stereotypes, there’s much more to know about visiting the Gold Coast than partying in Surfers Paradise or getting a selfie with the ‘Meter Maids’. While it’s the perfect destination if you’re a lover of the ocean or great outdoors, the Gold Coast is rapidly developing into a cosmopolitan hub that embraces the local art, dining and nightlife scenes. As Australia’s largest non-capital city, experts say that the population of the greater Gold Coast region is set to reach over 720,000 by as early as 2022.
This favourable growth projection is something that the Queensland Government seem all too aware of, and in late 2018 gave the green light to the massive $2 billion dollar redevelopment of the Star Casino as a means to provide the Gold Coast with another world class tourism asset.
Unveiling The New Star Casino
Developed by The Star Entertainment Group and its consortium partners, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium, the transformation of the iconic Broadbeach Island institution is set to be a scale similar to the largest integrated resorts in Las Vegas.
Once the full transformation is unveiled in 2022, the new Star Casino will be home to a wide range of accommodation, dining experiences and activities, with just a handful of upcoming events lined up for next year including comedy festivals, musicals and DJ’s hitting the decks.
Adding to the excitement of this, the 4.5 star hotel and apartment tower will also be home to new restaurants and bar concepts, a recreation deck with ocean views and a resort pool for hotel guests, which will be of particular use by the time that Brisbane Olympics rolls around in 2032.
In the short term, the redevelopment and expansion of the Star Casino is set to pave the way for a whopping 12,000 construction and operational jobs by the time that the project is finished for it’s reopening in 2022. Chantelle Lindores, Managing Director of Lindores Mobile Cranes, notes that the influx of work into the South East Queensland community will leave a legacy for years to come.
“For our business alone, one of the first things you can witness whilst taking a stroll down Casino Drive are the equipment and machinery used by us at Lindores Mobile Cranes to help facilitate the completion of the Star Casino redevelopment. Projects of this size and calibre have been few and far between for many members of the Queensland construction industry, and we’re proud to be involved with something that will provide ongoing benefits to both visitors and residents of the Gold Coast alike”.
The project will significantly expand an already transformed The Star Gold Coast, and together with construction underway at the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development, would give The Star and its consortium partners two iconic properties to drive networked tourism outcomes for South East Queensland.
In addition to the current construction of the $400 million, fifty three storey Dorsett hotel and apartments tower, the master plan is expected to be completed in 2022. Once open in full, the Star Casino on the Gold Coast will be Australia’s first integrated multi-tower resort, with nearly 1,200 hotel rooms, suites and 900 residences across the four towers.
Needless to say, it’s set to be an invaluable addition to Tourism and Events Queensland’s initiative to enable up to $20 billion in latent international visitation expenditure by 2030 - spelling good news for both Queenslanders and our economy.
